Sharp detailed portrait Kaustubh! I like the smooth blue BG and ripples in the water.

Nice portrait Kaustubh with good feather detail and exposure, not easy to extract detail with that kind of feather pattern. Also like the low angle and background.

Nice detail on this portrait. I might be tempted to take a hair off the top and RHS if mine. Well done.

You've been doing some great stuff with these Gadwalls! Low angle, sharp, great eye contact, and a perfect exposure. Nice job!

    Thx everyone.

Mital, I know what you are seeing. Shooting ducks in India is quite hard and other than you, I dont see many folks doing that consistently.

Out here, there are a few species like American Wigeon, Gadwall and Lesser Scaup.....although they are migratory and come here only in the winter, they are very used to people on some urban ponds in public parks. However, the same species are extremely skittish on ponds where no one hangs out and one needs long glass to get frame filling shots there. Since I only have a 400mm lens, I prefer to shoot at places where they dont mind my presence and come within 20-25 feet :-)

    Kaustubh,
Gadwalls are one of my favorite ducks. Such subtle colors--but amazing feather patterns.
Love the details on this portrait--nice light, too.

Very nice and intimate portrait KD. Like your reasoning for shooting at those ponds. It makes perfect sense to me mate. :)

Ditto comments already made and will only add that protographing at urban ponds is great for the reasons you gave although sometimes it's hard to get an isolated view when the birds all flock over expecting some kind of food:) You did extremely well here, however.

Katie, you said it well. Getting 'Coot free BG' is the biggest challenge :-) And at times, 'Coot free FG' too :-)

Kaus, I like your choice of comp, good detail throughout, and just love the complimentary colours of the water.
    Great capture.
