This is full frame, and purposely zoomed in to capture the texture of the hide. I also believe these work better in B&W too. Taken early morning in the Kruger National park last month. Your thoughts and feedback would be appreciated.
I think Stuart this might be a case where colour might be the preferred option, not much tone/contrast variation here and since the eye is the centre of focus and often hidden in ele's, seeing that eye in colour would be nice.:D
Love the texture of that trunk.

Stuart - I like the texture. I too would like to see the color version because any of these I've taken the eyelashes are very long and conceal the eye so it would be interesting to see the eye in color.
The color version brought out more of the texture of the lines in the creature's hide, which surprises me a bit. Also I'm so glad to have seen the color version because this animal has a gorgeous eye color. I also love the salmon colored bokeh. I guess I'm just a sucker for color photography!
colour version comes out tops here Stu. Marc hit it on the head - there's not enough tonal variation in the original which made the B&W come out mostly grey with very few in the pure black and white registers :)
I like the simple compo here excluding the trunk and tusks in that it focuses everything on that lovely eye
