    Default Kookaburra #5

While photographing the Kookaburras feeding their young in the nest this one perched on a limb directly above me with a young Rattus rattus. No time but just point and shoot. I left the little flower there because it tells part of the story. It is a Lantana flower caught in spider web, so the Kookaburra has seen the young rat moving around in the Lantana and dived in and grabbed it. This is an example of ecological services provided by the Kookaburra. Image nearly full size cropped from hoizontal.

Very nice capture considering the conditions Colin. I like the flower and the story!

Hi, Colin. I agree with Dan. You did really well with the conditions, particularly with the use of fill-flash and holding your whites in the strong light. I'd be interested to see the full horizontal.

    Cheers,

Despite the conditions and steep angle you got yourself a strong image graphically and emotionally here. We get a good sense of how strong the bill's grip on the rat is. You could try to tone down the brightest whites...

I feel sorry for the poor mouse!
Well...that's life and some times they just happen to be food for other species...
Nice and fast action, good that you were ready and that you included the little lantana flower.
