I've been working with the manager of Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary along the Mississippi River to document the return of a large group trumpeter swans, which overwinter here each year. This is one of my favorite shots so far as the light was magic last Sunday morning. Of particular interest was the one bird that appears to be turquoise in color, at least in this light.

P.S. Thank you Captain Shadle for the friendly nudging to share my work and opinion once in awhile with my old friends at BPN.
Lovely light, so evocative of early morning. Trumpeters are great subjects.
Well exposed, sharp. The blue bird is a juvi that is being shaded by the wings of the adult in front of him.
Love the blend of water to BG.
In a perfect world, would prefer a bit less overlap of the birds.
I love the warm early morning light! The low angle and pink water really add to the image. I agree with Randy here, the overlap of some birds is distracting. Getting a perfect comp with so many birds would be almost impossible though, and you did great job with what you had.
Hi Danny,
I like the color and light of this. Also like the low angle and how you got all the heads profiled or looking toward you. BTW, nice variety on your website.
Danny, this is beautiful. You have captured the mood perfectly and the low angle gives that extra intimacy...as if you are another duck in that pond looking at the scene.
Thanks everybody.....while there was some overlap of the birds, I was happy to see that all of their heads were clear and looking somewhat in the direction of the camera. Take care.
