    Default EOS utility

I have aCanon 7d and download using EOS utility, it used to default to DPP and I could name my file. Well, I am now using a Mac and looks like the images aren't going to DPP. Any suggestions about organizing your images, files, where do most people keep them so they can be accessed by DPP or PS5 or ??? This is getting to be an unorganized, where's my files problem for me and I'd appreciate any thoughts. thanks, Ann

    Ann,
Also on a Mac and a 7D here and the photos folder under your user is a good place to start. Birds As Art has some good tips on work flow to organize your files naming by date and location. If you have PS5 you should also have Bridge - it has some great organizing features that directs images pulled from the camera to be stored in my photos folder and assigns the folder a name using my convention. Bridge also has a tagging feature which is really helpful that allows you (in the case of birds) to organize by taxonomy (granted you have to put it in (but do it as you go): shoot some warblers, create a folder called Passerines, then Warblers, the yellow or what ever you shot. Then select all the photos of that type and click each organizing box. Then you can go back into the images and search by how you labeled them. You can also use labels for locations and drill down if you like - you can make it as simple or complex as you like. That way you keep one master organizing system and use searching to find the images you want later. Bridge is also great because if you then open the image in Digital Camera RAW as a step program, you can do a significant amount of tweaking to the image without having to open PS. AS to DPP, I really did not get into using it. I have it but found once I learned Bridge it was really easy.

    Hope that helps.
