This is more of a fun image. I captured this egret with this very long piece of branch, and I wondered how he managed to fly with it. It doesnt look too thick, thus probably not too heavy, but as you can see, it is extremely long. Captured at the university of Pretoria last weekend.

Maybe worse than carry, how the heck will it get worked into a nest? A good depiction of Bird Brain.

I can just hear Mrs. Egret saying "Take that right back to the store and pick out something more useful." Not the perfect wing position, but nicely captured to keep the bird and stick in focus against the background.

    Stuart:

I like the 'funny ' pictures, and have posted a few myself!
Did you see him land with it?

Tech. issues with head angle and whites, but the image succeeds because of the interesting story!

Thanks Randy. Unfortunately I didnt see him land. There were a number of trees on an island to the right, and these guys were landing out of sight.

Thanks Bill and Alan for your feedback.

Well captured Stu, never seen one that long. I was photographing at a heronry the other day and was watching egrets ferrying nesting material. From my observation it seemed that they were very selective about which branch to take to the nest. Constantly selecting and discarding branches before deciding, so I wonder if this guy consciously selected this one. :DTFS.

I like funny captions as well. Hmmmm. Any chance of getting a forum created just for humorous photo captions?
