Sidharth:
Well exposed, good choice on +EV, love the catchlight.
I believe you could have traded a bit or your depth of field for a higher shutter speed.
What ISO were you working at?
Nice subtle color in BG.
Cheers

Randy, thanks for the comments.
I was working at iso 400. Sorry, I forgot to mention it.
Re. SS: I was able to crawl really close to this fellow and he was accomodating enough that I tried a variety of settings. Starting with f8 upto f20 just for grins and also to ensure enough dof at such close quarters.
This might be the only image in my meager collection at that dof.
Please let me know if you see any downside of that in this image. I have many others at different dofs.
Thanks,
Sidharth
Sidharth:
I can't see any obvious issues with using the f/20 here. Most lenses will start to lose sharpness secondary to diffraction at such a small f/stop. I think the biggest risk was the slow shutter speed causing motion blur. Your margin here was pretty thin on shutter speed, but you pulled it off.
Randy
Sidharth, you are lucky this guy gave you some nice opportunity. I have never been lucky with these guys. Nice capture.
Thanks, Bhushan.
Randy, I looked at a bunch of raw images of this guy made at f/11 vs f/20 at 100% and in all of them, the f11 ones are substantially sharper. Not readily apparent when looking at them in smaller size, but pretty big difference at 100%
Although I almost never shoot at f20, this is good to know. And the take away for me is to always view at 100% before selecting an image to process.
Thanks!
Sidarth
This is pretty darn special mate! Lovely DOF and good work on the approach. I'd be proud to have this wonderful high-key shot of such bird. Well done mate. :)
Lovely portrait. I agree you did well with the exposure. The reflection in the eye is great. The little guy looks very comfortable with you presence.
Sidharth, well captured on your slow ss, as it is sharp enough. Good job with the aperture too. I like the detail on the head and beak, and the high key works well.
Very nice and I am glad the BBP was accommodating. My only comment is that to lighten up the eye slightly
Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.
Myer, good tip, thanks. I will lighten that eye.
Lovely portrait. Exposure looks spot-on, and image is nice and sharp. Good lesson re the SS/f-stop tradeoff, but this looks good to me despite the relatively slow SS. Prior to reading Myer's comment I also thought a slight lightening of the eye might be helpful.
Tremendous job in getting so close. Well exposed and perfect HA. I bet you can see yourself in the eye at 100% view in the 15MP file :-)
I love the High Key Bg as these birds really standout nicely with this kind of shot. Well Done!!!
