This Jay gave me quiet a challenge as he flew in and out of the sunlight into shadow. I really liked the line created by the branch in this one. B&W achieved in post-processing.

I like the alert look on the Jay's face! Nice branch paralleling the bird. Nice out of focus bg and B & W conversion.

    Hi Dawn,

I love Blue-jays. He's got a good posture and a good HA. Could use a bit of shrpening. The branch perch is somewhat overpowering the bird, imo. I might consider a crop here, just to the point where the Jays head is higher than the upswing in the branch. That may require more canvass on the left. See what other have to say..........

Dawn, I see why you like the interesting branch. I do wish the piece on the left were a bit more in focus. Jay makes a good point about it overpowering the bird. Do you have any more canvas to give it a bit more room? I might tone down some of the whites in the image if it were mine. Beautiful pose and you did a great job w/ the conversion. :)

Dawn, I like the conversion and the pose. I agree about the whites and I think it would be nice to evict the leaf on the left side of the tail so it would stand out more.:)

If you had a chance to step to the right that would have given you some more breathing space to the left of the bird. Oh, sorry, this is not avian. :o In any case, that would have given you a very nice base comp to tweak. It is good as is, but a little more care in the comp department makes a big difference for later uses of the image. As is, the branch is a little overpowering on the left as the others had mentioned. The B&W conversion is very nice, and I am thinking maybe the eye could be a touch lighter? Well done. :)

Its been a crazy week-sorry I haven't been by earlier. I wanted to thank everyone for their comments and critique. As often is the case, moving was not an option. The minute I moved, the bird flew to another tree.
