We haven't posted here in awhile, but we recently picked up a new camera and would appreciate some feedback on our early efforts with it.
This is Mr.B :
Shot with Canon SX-30 in morning light. Manual mode ISO 100 f5.8 1/200 840mm eq.
Nothing added or removed.
We're still experimenting with the camera's controls and features to learn what works best for us in various situations. So your any comments will be helpful.
Beautiful Bluebird, nice perch, sharp, gorgeous background. Might darken the perch a little, a leave a little more room around if you have it. Wish the eye was not in the shadows. But it does appear that the camera can dance.
Man, that is one of the plumpest bluebirds I've seen...they are usually quite slimmer looking! Yes, that camera sure can capture details:cool:. I do find the bird large in the frame. Could you have moved right a bit to align the sun angle directly behind your back? This would have given the eye and surrounding area better illumination with proper HA (BTW HA and is good here, but not the light angle).
How is the higher ISO performance on these cameras (e.g. ISO 400)?
Comments from both of you are well-taken and appreciated.
This shot was full-frame (no crop) from about 12ft... I could have backed off the zoom some, but I was loving the DOF for the background and hopeful to capture maximum feather detail from the close shot. The scaled version posted above doesn't quite show the level of detail captured in the full-size image.
Daniel - The SX-30 is a small-sensor camera and noise is visible even at base ISOs, but I've been processing some ISO 400 shots pretty successfully, on images that are properly exposed. Still, our best results have been at ISO 200 or less.
Here's an ISO 400 shot at 1/125:
NR (Neat Image plug-in) applied to bg only.
