    Default Brush-tailed Possum

A young Brush-tailed Possum emerging from its daytime tree hollow for its nightly activities- mainly eating. These are nocturnal marsupials about large domestic cat size.

The composition would probably be better with a little more room at the bottom.
Unfortunately I am looking at this on a rubbish monitor in UK, but it looks like there are some problems with the eyes.

Would agree with Ken re the crop and I have to say the eyes do look odd, perhaps some artwork was done? Just looking at your exif, perhaps the double diffused flash has caused the lack of brilliance in the eyes.

Love the texture of the trunk and the way the possum hardly appears to fit in the trunk. You are lucky to have a brush tail possum, they are quite rare where I am and we mainly have the ring tails which make drays in the tree tops. This is a beauty. TFS.

Thanks for the comments. The data is there in the raw image to brighten the eyes, but they are fairly dark naturally. I don't have time to do a repost but could also have allowed more space at the bottom.

Hilary, New Zealanders would think you lucky for having few brushtails!

nice texture of the tree Col. I agree about the eyes, they look very odd. And unfortunately I know my possums very well. All I can think of as well is the lighting? Here is an image of how the eyes should normally look. Mind you it was taken with a single hot-shoe mounted flash.

    well done mate. :)

Colin - I agree with the others. I saw a few of these in NZ but most were roadkill (sorry). Didn't get any good shots of the live ones.

OK, you've bullied me into it :) I'm meant to be writing a thesis but here I hope I have finally done the right thing by this little possum. Does look better, thanks for your help!

Colin, I hesitate to add anything as that thesis is calling; it's good to see more detail in the eyes although perhaps they are bit too light/unsaturated now. Cute little guy, in any case.
