One of Southern Africa's three species of crane taken at Wakkerstroom wetlands. Considered vulnerable in S.A. The other two Blue Crane (vulnerable) and Wattled Crane (criticaly endangered) can also be found at Wakkerstroom. Not to happy with the background but happy to get this one of a most spectacular bird.

    Hi mate
Something is looking a little funky with this image. Maybe the sharpening went too far or I just cannot put my finger on what else it could be. Lovely looking bird and nice habitat! :)

Pieter, good to see him in the open, and you have brought out the colours nicely. I dont find the BG that distracting, as most of the crane is against the greens of the foliage. I have to agree with the others that maybe the sharpening was a touch too much. Having said that, its pretty tricky with those long strands of thin feathers or plumage.

Thanks for the feedback not sure how I managed to do that. Not much sharpening applied on this one, is it any better ? You are right Stuart I find the long strands particularly in the light grey tricky.

Hey Pieter, great repost. If you are worried about over doing the sharpening, you can ease off in your action, and then selectively sharpen in areas that need it.
