Fascinating to see this Giraffe eating from a thorny acacia tree. Taken in the Serengeti, October 2010. C&C encouraged and greatly appreciated.

    Rachel.

It is amazing that they never hurt their tongues or mouth, we have acacias by our front gate and believe me they are best avoided!

Would have liked to see more of the tongue.

Katie - I like the stretched neck and the full mouth. I like the catchlight too. It would make a good "Got Milk?" campaign

Ken - It is Katie's image not mine, but one I would be happy to have. :D

What a great image! I love the intimate perspective and there is something about the shot that seems to really impart a sense of scale and the size of the giraffe.

There seems to be quite a few soft black specs under the chin - apart from the one very apparent one (that I am guessing is a piece of falling debris), most of the others look like sensor dust(?) - I'd be tempted to clean those up.

Jeff, thanks for noting those black specs...I had cloned out two before posting and missed these smaller ones. The two that I ejected were flies...and I'm pretty sure these are also.
