    Default White-throated Sparrow

A very common species in our backyard here in the Annapolis Valley, NS - especially in winter. This was hand-held with a D300 and Tamron 200-500 recently. I had to remove some out-of-focus branches, so I hope I haven't made the bg too boring by doing that.

I always like a sparrow....and this one has a nice look back. I also like the subtle colors. It looks like the point of focus was on the back of the bird, leaving the head a little soft. When you cloned out the OOF branches....were they also on the fence? It has a rather "blurry" appearance in places. It would be helpful if you posted your techs such as shutter speed and f/stop.

Hi Lana, and thanks. This was at ISO 1600, 1/500 at f7.1, jpeg fine. You are correct about the branches in front of the fence, but this was the best I could achieve without making the fence look even worse, so I left it at that.

ISO 1600....wow. You should consider shooting RAW as it will give you more latitude when converting the image. Might be time to do some trimming around the fence.

    Hi Lana,

Thanks for your comments - This was one of my first images with my new D300. Since taking that image I have indeed gone back to shooting RAW.

Nice head turn and great clean bg but it looks a bit oversharpened on my monitor
