I went out of my element of nature photogrphy with a few friends and tried some night shots and took this of the old Edison Theatre. I used my Sony A700 with a Sigma 14mm f2.8 lens on a tripod. Data- ISO 800, 15mm ( I don't know why the data says 15mm when shot with a 14mm...?), 1.7 ev, f/6.3, shutter 1/8, metering pattern.
Welcome C&C's. Thanks for looking, John

I think you got color ok. Captured the neons, etc. but I'm not sure what your purpose is in this shot. If it is purely historical, then you got a good clear capture of the theater at night, but I'd advise cropping in more closely with this shot. too much exraneous stuff like the empty windows on the sides, etc. If you are trying to be more artistic and capture the pure beauty of the architecture and lights, and you can get back there, you might want to try various angles that focus on the artistic parts--like an upward shot of the Edison sign. I'm not as skilled as others in the fine points of night shooting, so they can advise you. It is sharp and bright with the black sky contrasting well.

    Hey John,
Exposure looks great! I'm not too fond of the double yellow line in the FG.....but realize why you included it. You have the WA lean.....I am OK with it but most people want some correction. Normally, I would say crop out some black up top.....but it does leave enough room for a title. I might remove the light on the right/center frame edge.....but the rest works for me!

Awesome colors, John. I would love to see you try to correct the distortion a bit as it really feels like its leaning backwards quite a bit but I am still very impressed with the image. Super clear colors that really pop against that black BG!

Thank you all for your comments. As I said , this is out of my element and I will try more. I was happy with the results so far. I will take all your suggestions and put to use next time out. One note though, isn't it the purpose of using the super wide angle to get the effect the lens gives as an artistic touch?

Point taken. I do tend to crop closely and thus my comments--one of my quirks. As I said, you have the neons done well and clear and the black sky gives the contrast you'd need to make them stand out.
