Taking a pelagic trip from Hyannis, Mass. out to the Nantucket Shoals, we encountered at least 30+ humpback whales along with a few minke whales. The whale will use It's fluke to create a bubble cloud, then dived and come up into the bubble cloud to feed. The gulls and shearwaters all gathered around to pick up the leftover sand lances and other tidbits.
Taken with Nikon D3S, Nikon 70-200 F2 .8 with 1.7 telly converter. 330 mm, ISO 720, 1/1 250. Cropped to pano an initial adjustment and Lightroom, with final adjustments in Photoshop.
I am looking at your signature and it looks unsharp. I noticed this will looking at the image which also appears unsharp. I checked the image and it is uploaded to BPN. Sometimes offsite hosting causes this. So not sure the issue here.
I am sure this was a cool trip to witness the whales feeding. I don't feel the image conveys that however. Too little of the action is evident in the image. Did you get them breaching more out of the water?
Robert
Thanks the JPEG does look unsharp I wonder if it is the extra processing it went through when i put the waternak on. Re the whales feeding this was an extra treat since we were out mainly after birds. No the only activityfrom the whales was feeding. the most activity was when they used their tail to slap the water to create the bubble ring
