There 3.5 million of these little gems in the UK and they obviously regularly appear
on the forums. As it was blowing a real gale today I thought I would concentrate on getting a good image of one.
hope I succeeded!
Richard, the bird is a real beauty! You have a lovely pose and very nice detail throughout the bird despite the high winds...way to go!
Besides all those good strong points I find the lighter streaks in the BG very disruptive - remember that lighter areas always pulls the eye away from darker and with the colors on your bird being so intense that makes those lighter tones really pop out against him. You can try to tone those down but the main lesson here is to watch those BG's as closely as you watch the bird as they can make or break a great image.
I recropped your lovely specimen to get his eye and face closer to a ROT's point. This isn't a hard and fast rule but 90% of the time it's the way to go and I think it works better here. See what you think...
BG lights bothered me too, I may mask and sort that out.
Also your crop works for me too (thxs for repost) - I was trying not to cramp the bird in the OP
as I like to see bird looking into space.
Rich,
I agree with Julie on the BG and I like the repost a lot.
With that I will say that I like the image. The head angle does not bother me. It seems to be saying, "did you say something to me?"
Good eye contact and detail. Congrats!
