    Default Yours Truly

In addition to my moderator position on the Avian forum, I have a day job as a cardiac anesthesiologist. I've had the opportunity on a few occasions to help anesthetize animals at the Albuquerque zoo. Here's a photo of me taking care of a Polar Bear.

    Pretty neat Doug:

Who is the bigger 'bear' to deal with, this polar bear or some of your cardiac surgeons?

    Cheers

Thanks for sharing, Doug. What a great way to introduce yourself. I am confident the polar bear was in great hands. And what a treat it must have been for you too!

Nice to meet you Doug. Great job that!
Mate, you had to go to college to put people to sleep, I can do that just by talking to them. :D

If my cardiomyopathy ever gets out of whack I'm calling you up, Doug! What a neat thing to be able to help out with animals as well as people. Such an interesting life you must lead!

Great photo and a cool gig, Doug. I want to know how you get the "mask" over the bear's face in the first place.:p

Doug: Great photo! Steve just asked the question I wanted to ask -- How did you get the mask on the bear in the first place?

I am so intrigued that folks like yourself get to do tasks like this.

Can you explain in lay terms the procedure and how it differs from putting a human "under" ?

    Very carefully!!! :p

Actually the bear needs to be darted with a sedative first. Once it gets sleepy and lies down you approach it with the 'mask.'
