OK, I cannot get enough of Henry as I go through a couple of thousand images I took of him in the past few days. Here, he was trying to balance himself and I just caught him during a brief uncoordinated moment.
30D, 300/4L IS + 1.4x, ISO500, f/8, 1/800th, +1 2/3 EC, nearly full frame, just some levels adjustment. and cloned a small stick out of the perch.
Another fine image. Like the fluffed up breast feathers and balancing act pose. Was it quite windy, causing the fluffed feathers and the loss of balance?
The color of the sky works well with his orange/browns.
Lovely image, Akos. Henry sure has provided you with some nice photo opps. His character has really shown through in the photographs you have shared. One thing that has really stood out on all of them is the feather details in his chest. I especially like that on this one.
I like all the detail in this, and fluffy chest adds a lot. I also like the various colours we can see on him, and well timed to capture the extended wing. With your time spent with him, Im sure you wont get bored going through all your images. :)Thanks for sharing your experience with Henry mate.
Thanks for looking everyone.
Randy, no wind, he was a bit wobbly all alone and was simply balancing. He was fluffing out his feathers himself. Bonnie Block commented on another recent Henry thread that he was being comfortable since that is a behavior (apparently) associated with feeling safe and content. She was told by a falconer.
Super image, Akos! I was told by another birder this week that kestrals do not have great balance. They have to use their tail quite a bit when perched on something small and lightwelght. Wishing I had a Henry.
Another lovely image Akos. You've set the bar for Kestrel images pretty high! ;)
If you were going to do more with Henry it might be worth rotating the stick clockwise so he is perpendicular to you, and trying for some slightly different angles.
Thanks Mark. I saw the female today so am not that worried anymore and I already collected two more perches and as soon as I can I will rotate. I will do at night, so he doesn't get all cranky maybe. But seeing mum was a huge relief. Therefore, I got about 300 more images this morning. :D
