    Hello all

Have been trying to capture a good Bee Eater photo for some time now but I could never get close enough with my 70-200 + 1.4 TC... I recently purchased the 500mm & Mk4 and guess what, I still can't get close enough!! even with the 1.4 attached. These birds are very easily spooked...:(:(

The attached is one of my better? attempts with the new gear, please feel free to tell me what you think.

Even though they are small in the frame, the comp's effective as they are spaced along a nice diagonal perch, are looking in the same direction and seem freshly feathered. Congrats on the new gear, you still need to get to within about 10m at 700mm! :)

wow! you have three birds on one perch. I think you can sharpen them more.

Don, if the birds can be sharpened more, I think you have a winner . . .

Like the composition in this shot and the birds look sharp enough for my taste.

Nice line up here, looks a little oversatured on my monitor. Just goes to prove that even the best of lenses do not multiply as much as others think.

    Hi Guys

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I have increased the sharpening and reduced the saturation slightly in the repost. Yes Ken I agree, occasionally the 500 is too big but in this case it's too small. The 1.4 is often used and a 2x TC is on the immediate wish list. Will have to save for an 800 I surpose..:( either that or buy a cannon instead of a Canon.:D:D:D

Lovely repost Don, much nicer. The composition of the 3 birds looks great.

I really like the composition of this image. You did well to get all three looking the same way and with catchlights in their eyes. Very nice repost. The new 500mm certainly helped--just think where you would have been with only a 300mm and converters (hint: you'd be right where I am and without this beautiful image). Well done!
