    Default Tiger cub portrait

I was searching my old files to check if I have any photos impacted by heat waves. Came across this portrait that I had shot in 2005 using a 10D. As an after thought I just brought the saturation to zero to see how it looks like in B&W. Sharing the black and white version. No idea whether b&w is allowed or not.

Shot with Canon 10D, 300mm f4 L IS USM lens, supported by a folded towel on the jeep door. 1/90, f5.6 ISO 100. (ISO 100? :-) I had just shifted from EOS 1V to digital with the 10D, so always used to shoot at ISO 100)

This cub came and sat near me at a distance of about 8 feet for about one and half hours. Comments welcome.

I like the intense look but don't think that B/W improves the image.

I like the facial contact but would personally go for a more square comp near the top of the leg. I don't mind B/W but one of the things I enjoy about tigers is seeing the color contrasts of the orange and black stripes. The differences in the shades of orange are also interesting to me. And then there's the eyes. For my taste a B/W photo of a tiger does not do it justice.

    Hi Axel and Steve,
Both of you felt colour would be better than the black and white. So I am sharing the colour image. Both the images are uncropped. When I had shot this image, I hadn't thought b&w in mind. I would like to know when you guys think of shooting in black and white. Lookforward to your comments.

Much better. The BG leaves really complement the tiger and this version really has a nice overall color tone to it. I can't comment on B/W as I don't really care for that style and rarely use it. I like nature and wildlife because of the colors so my personal preference is for color.

I too prefer the color version. Love the eye contact. I'm not crazy about the crop mid-leg on the tiger would like to have seen just a bit more. A few light sticks in the BG could be cloned out and strengthen the image.. Very nice....
