    Anther nice one Gus. Love the sharpness and the background really makes the bird stand out nicely. The greenery adds a nice splash of colour and interest to the image. The bird looks a little washed out but maybe this is what this bird looked like in life. Well done.

    Gus, I'm not seeing mention of flash being used but the catch light in his eye makes me think it was. If this is the case I think you got a bit too much flash on him as he does look a little bit washed out and the BG looks really dark. I'd try for more of a balance between normal daylight and just a hint of fill flash and see if that produces a more natural look.

    As for the bird itself...LOVELY pose! Nicely sharp and detailed where it needs to be - could use a bit more DOF on the tail but it's not overly important in this case. I'd also clone out the one leaf towards the bottom of the frame that is barely included.

    Hi Jules;

    No flash, just bright early morning light. Funny, on my monitor, calibrated with eye-one, Display 2 the House Finch doesn't look washed out. Looks natural, but this is Birds as art, so I'll give it a go though I see now I should have selectively done the bird only!

    Thank for looking and the suggestions

    Nice re-do Gus! I'm wondering what this photo would look like when you apply your painting software app to it? I'm sure you have to be choosy with using that application, but it occurred to me this could be a good subject for it.

    See????? Now THAT'S what I'm talkin 'bout!!!!!! :-) BEAUTIFUL! I really need to check out that free FotoSketch software you use. Not sure how difficult it is to navigate around or use, but boy you sure do get some great results! Thanks Gus!
