We had a couple of Muscovi ducks fly into town in spring and a few have decided to stick around at the local watering hole. Now one of them has had some babies and they are a huge hit with the locals.

There were six to start with but one got lost to a hawk early on. The other five are growing like weeds and come shooting across the pond when they see me coming. There are four brown ducklings and this one lone white duckling (who many of us are waiting to see what she'll look like when she's all grown up.) They have been a total joy to photograph this past month. I just can't get enough of them!

Jules, I love the Muscovies and have lots of pictures of them too! They are so cute, and some of the friendliest waterfowl around. In one of our local duck ponds we have an albino. I'll share it here!

They are in a class of "orphan birds", since they are feral domestics (except for some true wild ones that venture into the very southern tip of Texas). Like the wild parakeets and parrots of California, they are not protected by any laws or regulations. Shunned by the wild bird and domestic bird communities alike, they are on their own. Thanks for sharing and taking an interest in them.

Kerry, I'd love to see an image of the white duck...my mind just cannot put together what this little one will look like when full grown. I'm just praying that winter holds back until they are a little bit older and better able to cope with the snow and ice.

    Hey Jules,
We get them here in NJ too! Don't worry about the snow and ice......they do just fine here in the Jersey winters and rather seem to enjoy it! I may have posted one of an adult white one in avian a while back.....but I'll have to dig up my images of the white one too! There all cuties but the white one is sure the crowd pleaser!
