Well, I thought I'd jump in here - though like some of you folks, I'm much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. My wife used her P&S to take this photo of me all bundled up in a heavy coat and snow pants (temporarily sans hat and gloves) putting out a bucket of corn at a northern Minnesota wintering site for trumpeter swans. It was a beautiful, moody, foggy morning. The swans are eager to be my friend - as long as the corn holds out. :) As you might imagine, with this many birds, one bucket doesn't last very long. Photography here is challenging as you try to get a clean shot of one, or a few, birds.

Yo Steve. Great pic that your wife snapped. I used to live in Mpls. & have spent many wonderful hours "up North."

Steve, your wife has a good eye! Lovely environment and bless you for feeding the birds. I understand the challenges of shooting in an area like that. In my city we have a large "duck pond" with several small islands. There are many nests of snowies, great egrets, and night herons as well as red-shouldered hawks. You would think it would be ideal, but there are so many trees and branches that it is rare to get a clean shot!

What a beautiful area this looks like! I'd be in heaven having a bunch of Tundra Swans roaming so close! Good to put a face to the name!

    Hi Steve:

It seems George-Ann has a great eye for photo opps the way she framed this one. This must be where you capture your lovely swan images. Thank you for sharing, STeve.

Hi Marina. George-Ann is pretty sneaky with her P&S. :) This one of 2 places where I photograph wintering trumpeter swans. This one is closer to home. Though it has fewer birds, you can get closer here and down on their level instead of standing on a river bluff.

Steve, this looks like one heck of a place. Neat photo too. But it looks really cold. I used to travel to St. Paul for a year for work and I just couldn't handle the winters :-)

    Nice to meet you.
