    Default Grizzly Sow

I shot this in the Hayden Valley, YNP last month. She & her 2 cubs were foraging in a meadow. All 3 bears kept moving toward me & I was backing up to maintain my distance from them. I cropped the image to improve ROT, sharpened it, & made minor adjustments in curves. I also lightened her left leg. I know, I should have been @ ISO 400. Also, I am up against the LHS with this crop.

Bingo, looks like it has ALL fallen into place Andrew, personally i think this is definitely your best.

MK4 hey, I'm waiting for next years announcement.

Nice detail, and you have kept those nice brown eyes from filling in. Wouldn't lighten any more under the chest & right leg as we see it, sits nicely in the muted colours of the scrub. Crop wise, any more below? If so I would move the crop (heighwise down) down half the space between the top of the image & the sow to allow for the virtual legs below and come in on the rhs half the space leaving the lhs alone.

    Well done.

Thanks Steve. I do have more room on the right & bottom. I will try your suggestions. I appreciate your feedback.

Agree with Steve. This is really a very nice bear portrait and I love the simple colours in the image. The shadow area in the leg you've lightened is starting to show quite a bit of noise so I agree with Steve not to do any more. In fact, maybe less? Which is the lessor of two evils, darker shadow or much noise in the shadow?

Just love the detail and colour of the eyes.

Agree with the comments above, would add some saturation & contrast to make the bear pop from the grasses.
Looks like some OOF cloning patches in lowerRHC?
Like the intense stare as she forages around.

Thanks for your suggestions. Here is a repost implementing them. I think it improves the image. Is it consistent with your mental picture?

Andrew- I agree with the others that details and muted colors are very nice. I prefer the comp on the repost.
