Caught this male Sparrow on top of a Petisporum bush in our garden with early morning and shooting right angle to the sun from the south. Background is a white adobe wall that was in the shadows.

Super image Gus. Love the dark BG and the perch. I like the head angle too. I wonder if placing the bird more to the right would work? The lighting from the right is quite harsh on the face of the bird but you do have detail in the shadows.

Thanks for your reply, John. Using the bottom slider I do think it looks better with about 1 1/4" cropped off the right side.

    Best regards

    Hi Gus,

I agree, the pose, bg and sharpness of the main subject are excellent, and I really like the black bg. But I feel the bird is too centered and would look better a little more to the right. The whites on the bird's cheek and on the leaves are too bright, and although I didn't measure it I wonder if the white on the cheek is blown. I also wonder if cloning out the oof leaves at bottom left would inprove things a little. But overall a good image of a bird that is usually taken for granted.

Hi Guys; Thanks for the good advice, I attempted to complete all your suggestions and also took a smidge off the top & bottom. Working on a JPG without first making it a PSD or Tif usually loses a bit in the redo, but I tried to keep it at a minimum. looking forward to your comments. Gus

Hi Gus! I like the crop much better. Really nice HA and the bird is beautifully presented. The only problem I see is a couple of hot spots on the bird's neck and the plant.

Gus - I like the repost a lot. The crop took care of an oof leaf on the rhs that looked strange in the OP maybe because it was where the plant met the bg.

    Rachel
