Lovely colours and textures in this Coucal image, Ben. BG is great but showing a lot of noise/compression artifact(?exacerbated by sharpening for web). A run of NR and masking the sharpening to the bird may help.

Nice pose with this guy showing off his beautifully coloured wing. I also like the dark subdued lighting...putting in evidence a gloomy rainy day. I find the tail tip too close to the bottom edge, worth adding back canvas if you have it.

P.S. What is the name of this spcies?

Nice image Ben, I like the subdued light, wing position typical for this species and detailed feather pattern on the wing. Exposure and sharpness is great. Agree with Daniel re composition.

Nice pose, and simply gorgeous colors. Worth adding some canvas to the bottom and running NR on the background to put this one over the top.

A good week for Coucals in the open, and this is the best yet.

    Fabulous and true colours

    I think it is a Burchell's.

Thanks for the comments, and suggestions, all appreciated. Burchells Coucal. It was early morning after a rainstorm, I saw about 5-this one was the best-the others-ISO 1200 and not as sharp.

Good looking Coucal Ben, and I like the partially open wing. I agree, a tad tight at the bottom, and some NR on the BG will work.

Very pleasing overall capture. I agree with the comments made (nr, more room at bottom). Very "earthy" tones! Nice!
