I shot this at 7am out at Bosque. Is it hopeless to expect to get a decent flight shot that early in the day? The overall color seems drab to me. I want to try a similar composition again on my next trip. Any sugestions please?

7 am before the time change is not the best time of day, as the sun hasn't risen yet. Starting next week 7 am will be prime time. The big issue here is that you're in between the bird and the sun. If you pick a spot that places you between the sun and the birds, you'll get great images. When are you going to be there?

I plan to be back between the 19th to the 23rd this year. I am praying for bad weather. No solid blue skies for me.

I don't mind the colours and backlighting here. Just the birds flight direction letting the image down I think.
