Are you in a hot air balloon or what? I mean where are you standing so that you can photograph the top of the bird???

I was sitting in a chair on the ground. The bird was banking hard into a 20 MPH wind.

    Any feedback on the image?

It is a gem. I am speechless. I plan to buy the same chair if you can tell me the brand.

    Extraordinarily gorgeous image, Alan.
    Fantastic on every single count.
As always, I'm in reverential awe of your work!

That said, if I absolutely had to pick a nit, I would say crop a tiny bit from the top and add that below instead.

A real pleasure to look at, Alan. Looks as if you got your shot early; thanks for rousing yourself out of bed. I love the tailfeathers in perfect fan shape. Few shots show more effectively how a bird uses its tailfeathers.

Wow. Beautiful image. Love being able to see the top of the bird-don't see images with that perspective much. Very nicely done.

nothing to critique on the image, it is exceptional.

I have a question on the Owl decoy. How does that work? full frame body and 300mm is pretty close. Is the image cropped?

    cheers

I echo Gavin/wembley. Is the idea that the hawk swoops in to chase off the owl?

The bird makes a pass at the Owl. This one was smaller in the frame than I like, so it's cropped about 40%.

Excellent detail and I love the fanned out tail and banking pose...head angle perfect. It doesn't get much better than this.

    Alan:

How high do you need to set the owl decoy? Are you in plain sight in your chair, or in camo/chair blind, etc.?

The picture itself rocks, pose, exposure, detail. IQ held up well despite crop.

    Cheers

    Randy

Looks good! Technically perfect and a nice change to see a top view of the wings.

Alan, another excellent image - I'm speechless. As Randy asked if you could tell us a little more on how to set=up the owl decoy it would be much appreciated. I live in the country and have an abandoned 40 acre cattle pasture behind my home that Northern Harriers frequently hunt would love to try the owl decoy on them.

Excellent dorsal view, and just love the angle. Good detail and sharpness throughout, and well captured.

WOW Alan, this is stunning. Loved the subject placement, pose and that the eye is so clearly visible in a hard bank.
