    Default At day break

D90 70-200VR 1/1250 f4.5 ISO1000 0EV handheld Taken this morning at day break. Out of camera, except for a very minor clone to eliminate one egret. I liked the captured blue-on-white light on the egrets' wings. Does it work at all? Wendell

    Wendell:

The lighting really does give you a sense of the time of day this was taken.
I like the hills in the background, a bit different from what we usually see for egrets, and it serves to anchor the image. Just the right amount of the hills showing.

In a perfect world, would prefer them angling towards us, and not so many merges, but I do think it is an effective picture as is.

    Cheers

    Randy

This image recreates the refreshing mood of a lovely morning, and for that I like this image.
I too would have preferred the birds not angling away from you and that the hills anchor the image very nicely.
Two spots I would definitely remove - the tiny spot on the left, about 3 inches from the bottom (perhaps a bird entering the frame) and another one on the right, about 2 inches from the top (perhaps a bird exiting the frame). Thanks for sharing.

I like the composition and the mood. Though the idea of day break seems to fit better with them facing toward the camera rather than away. When I look at it, I tend to think the day is over, the birds are going home for the night.

Maybe take a little artistic license and say it's at the end of the day :)

Thanks for the suggestion, Charles; good idea . . .
