Started with an image with poor IQ (hazy day shot through airplane window) and worked downward from there ;)

Some over detailing (Topaz detail 2), selective toning (Lab curves), selective Gaussian blur & noise, Orange overlay at low opacity.

Probably needed to clone out some of the buildings for that 50's or 60's look ;). For those of you who don't know LA, that's the Miracle Mile (Wilshire Blvd.) on the left bottom 3rd.

    Thanks for looking...

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Hey, Michael, I just finished retouching some photos from WW II that my dad took over Japan from a cargo
plane and they looked just like this!

Michael, I'm hoping that your image will make more people decide not to live here... ;););)

But seriously, I do wish there was a little bit more detail overall. I do like the aged look and the apparent paradox presented by the old look and the current city. Next time you're down here let me know!

Michael, I think it looks exactly like an old faded image. So great job with that. I too wish for a tiny bit more detail because w/o the explanation I wasn't sure what it was. I also have never been to LA though:o

    Cheryl, Kerry, Denise,

Thanks much for the comments. The original really is pretty bad, though, there is some more detail, but I put a bit of the pseudo-tilt shift into it to focus on the downtown area.

Denise, LA had no real skyline, per se... but what it lacks in skyline it makes up for in sprawl :) This shot is from probably 20 miles out from the tall buildings (@ 200mm & 15,000 feet ;)).

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Interesting image, Michael. Personally I agree with Denise and Kerry on wanting to see a bit more detail overall, but this does have a very nice aged look. :)
