These guys normally walk through the veld ( grasslands ) looking for any food item that happens to be around. They will feed on frogs, tortoises, and can be seen forraging through elephant dung looking for bugs. I was happy with this, as it was taken through my passenger window, as he walking in the opposite direction. Taken in the Kruger National Park last weekend. Unfortunately couldnt get more space at the bottom. Taken early morning in overcast conditions.

Yeah, those details rock bro. Really nice contrast of blacks and reds. A killer portrait! :)

I agree with your concern of wanting more below, but still a wonderful portrait. Full of detail. I love the weathered bill with the gap midway through. I imagine these guys are quite tall?

Thanks Dan. These guys arent that tall at all. Here is an unedited image to show their size. Notice the closed nictitating membrane whilst swallowing a bug.

Thanks for showing a full body image. I thought it was more stork-type in height and shape!

Fantastic portrait. Great reds and blacks as noted. I guess you should consider yourself lucky about the clean bill considering where they apparently like to put it in... :)

Fantastic image when I see one as good as this it makes me chuckle when I read about the 100-400L not being sharp!

    Stuart,

This is a shot I have always wanted but never manage to get, the colours are perfect.
If you had had just a little more of the eyelash it would probably have been perfection

Stuart, great profile - once again colours are spot on and sharpness, detail and exposure perfect.

Good capture I have tried to get a decent profile but these guys are allways on the move.
