It would be nice to be able to search for photos of a certain species; e.g., Barred Owl. When I do a keyword search for Barred Owl I get lots of hits that are not related to Barred Owls. We would probably need to add a metadata field for spp, along with a controlled vocabulary. What name to use?? Latin name (maybe too esoteric). Common name?? American Egret, Common Egret, Great Egret ... what else will AOU come up with?

Might the Sapsucker Woods folks have suggestions?

    David,
Try using our Advanced Search feature.
    To search "Barred Owl"

Select the Search Multiple Content Types tab.
    Search Types: Select all options.
Keyword(s): "Barred Owl", from the drop down menu select Search Titles Only.

That should return the results your looking for.

The MySQL database is fulltext indexed and accepts Boolean and natural language search functions. It does however default to OR instead of AND like most people are used to. You can specify AND or +keyword +keyword to use AND based searching. Quotes will search for the specific phrase.

Searching for Barred Owl in the box with no quotes, other operatives, or advanced search, will list all threads and replies that contain the word "barred" or "owl"
