Default Pelican taking off from tree

I was trying to capture a pelican taking off from tree in vertical format. I got this one, but there were two pelicans on the left in the tree. I used the 400mm f2.8 L IS USM lens with 2x converter, but still could not isolate the single pelican taking off.

Equipment: Canon EOS 1D Mark II, 400mm f2.8 L IS, EF 2x II converter.

1/2000 sec, f5.6, EV: -1/3, The file size was cropped from 2336*3504 to 1789*3246 to avoid the pelicans perched on the branch. Look forward to your suggestions and crop ideas.

    sharp image.
i feel a little higher contrast will highlight the bird. the image looks a bit dull otherwise.

    thanks for sharing.

Swet bird and photo. I love the raised foot. Cropping a bunch off the bottom woudl help. Do you know the species and the age??

    Later and love, artie

I like the pose and setting. Adding to the other comments, it seems to have a slight blue cast.

    Hi Artie,
Unlike you, I am not an expert in birds. However, I know that this is a grey pelican Pelecanus philippensis. It is an adult with non-breeding plummage. I don't know about the age of the bird though. If you ask me about age of tigers, I can tell you with high accuracy. :-)
I am reposting with cropping as suggested. Now the file comes to 1779*2669 i.e. about 58% of the original file. Am not expert in processing. I am using lightroom. So look forward to suggestions.

Thanks. And ah, you are an expert in birds as you knew the pelican species. And, you knew the "age:" adult, non-breeding. The crop is much more powerful.

I do not know anything about Lightroom but Alfred Forns does. Try getting in touch with hiim.
