I have just returned from a five day trip to our Kruger National Park. I managed a variety of different animals, and one of my highlights on the avian side was this Saddle Billed Stork. I was in a hide at one of the water spots, and was fortunate that this guy was pretty close to get all sorts of shots of him. I do have full body shots too, but thought this angle was interesting. Taken late afternoon.

Really like the colors of the bill and the eye really stands out. Like the open bill as well.

    Stuart,

Never managed to get this close, it has allowed you to show the fabulous colours, great head angle as well.

Stuart , excellent profile, the colours are spot on with good detail in the blacks. It is so easy to oversharpen with these close-ups which is not the case here. Great image.

Stuart, it almost looks like a wood carving, exposure bang on, unreal colors, detail and nice BKGR...TFS

Super sharp and I love the open bill. You might wish to cut back a tad on the contrast. Could go a bit more back in the frame. If you could have gotten lower you would likely have softened up the look of the BKGR a bit.

Very cool looking bird. Agree with the slight crop off the right. Love the opened bill too.

Your shot leaves no doubt as to why the stork is called the "saddle-billed." Thanks for telling that interesting story through your fine image.
