Good picture of this bird showing much of the distinguishing features ... yet I find it looks a bit surreal ... the light or post-processing!?

Marc, this is beautiful. I love the mood created by the light, and the background is very nice as well.

Wonderful bird, wonderful painterly background. In a perfect world the end of the tail wouldn't be lost in the vegetation, but that's a minor nit.
Neat bird, cool perch, good comp. I'd tone down the whitest whites below the wing (near thigh). I like the two yellowish lines framing the subject. I'm not crazy about the BG in LRC...I'd try to blend that in a little for a smoother finish. Seems to be a bit of bluish cast to the plumage?
Hi Mark, we nick name these guys 'flying banana's' due to the shape of their beaks, I like the stately pose, and stands out nicely against the BG.
Love the bird and the pose and the head angle and wish only that the vegetation had not been there. For me "nice dappled light" is an oxymoron; the bright white sunlit patch of feathers on the near flank show why :)

Artie:
I have seen a few dappled light images that I thought really worked well, but they all had the head/eye area in the light at least.
Marc:
I might consider a small crop from left and below to minimize the effect of the vegetation and mound a bit. I think you can even out the lighting on the bird with a little selective dodging and burning. What a bill!

Randy: send me a link to one :) Here the shaded WHITES have a BLUE cast and the sunlit WHITEs are detail-less even though they are not showing as over-exposed. I did a Linear Burn on them and they stayed whiter than white.

tricky light and tricky conditions. I think you did the best in this situation. The two brown branches are a bit distratcing for me
Artie:
I do think this image can be improved by some work on the hotter areas. Agree about the color cast, but I feel that there is some detail to be had in the whites on the thigh. I reduced cyan in the whites in selective color to -35.
Minor crop, multiply on selection on thigh at about 65%, slight smoothing of luminosity with dodging tool. Reduced the yellow channel to downplay the yellow stripes in background.

You did much better than I did :) Way to go. I think that it was the CYAN that did the trick.
