    Default Florida Duck

I tried to ID this duck but I couldn't find it, sorry. :(
I got pretty close in a low stalking position and did not get up for fear of scaring it. The grass would have probably obscured the bottom anyway. ;)
    Canon 40D, 100-400 @400mm
    1/800, f/5.6, ISO400, partial metering.
Selective noise reduction, sharpening in CS3 used.
    Having fun in Florida, :D

Nice light and pose. As for the ID, I'm not sure, looks like a mallard/X hybrid.

Yes, nice light but there is something way-funky going on here... There is a big yellow halo around most of the head and neck and the whole image looks as if it had been Gaussian blurred... In addition, the two brownish half-circles behind the head are a bit wierd too. Please post the unprocessed converted file so that we can try to figure out what you did. Thanks.

I don't know what happened here, but the post-processing was not very successful...sorry. There is a heavy yellow cast and some distracting fluorescent markings around the head and neck. As Axel said this does look like a hybrid with mostly Mallard traits.

    Here is the original image.
I tried looks like unsuccessfully the selective noise, sharpening from another instruction thread. I missed around the head area as noted. Didnt show up until I posted it that I could see anyway
I also used the sponge tool to saturate the bird, probably too much also.
I have never reposted an image so I hope this works.

You caught a great pose. The problem is not in your post work though. The under exposure on your initial shot is the problem. A positive expsoure adjustment of at least a half a stop was needed here.

Thanks for the repost. Not sure how you got the yellow halos... The repost looks somewhat bettter but midtones still too light, and the bill looks way funky as it does in the ORIG...

Thanks Artie for taking a second look. I did not do a Levels adjustment here to bring out the deepening any. Everyone does images differently, at least it seems that way to me. I noticed the Bill when processing and that is the way it is naturally. Maybe the duck was quacking or something as it looks that way to me also. I did not do anything to the Bill at all. Thats just the way it is. I really do not like to re-do an image as it never works usually, at least for me. I do not really like for others to re-do my images but if someone else wants to try and see what is wrong with the Ducks Bill, they are welcome. I have done all I know to this image and it is just about ready for the delete bin looks like.?
    Thanks again Artie,
    bf
