I captured this guy in mid stride while hoping for some BIF's at a local park. It was loping along in front of some pedestrians and didn't really seem too bothered by me or them, so it approached quite close before exiting stage left! I was in BIF mode and was able to fire off a handfull of shots. PP'ed in NX2(shadow protect, cropped a bit) and CS3 (selectively sharpened/NR with Noiseware Pro, lightened the eye). Harsh and backlit but I like the action:p. C&C welcome.

    Camera Model: NIKON D300, handheld
    Shutter speed: 1/1500 sec
    Aperture: 8

Flash: Optional,AA ? not sure what this is, I was in TTL fill -2 stops
    Metering mode: Multi-segment
    ISO: 800
    Lens: VR 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D
    Focal length: 400mm

Very nice. The darn jackrabbits here don't like their pictures taken, whereas the cottontails are easy targets. I might consider cropping a bit off the right -- or not.

What a great look on his face, love those ears. Looks more like a hare than a rabbit but I don't know what your species are called. What is a jack rabbit?

Hi Hilary, the official common name for this species is Black-tailed Jackrabbit. I don't know whether it's also a Hare but I'll take Ian's word on that! Thanks for looking!

Dan - I like that you captured it mid-stride (hop) and the big eye. I agree on cropping some from the rhs, it will have the added benefit of making it less apparent that this was on the side of a road/trail.

    Dan,

Nice work capturing the action sharp. I agree with the RHS crop suggestion too.
