Cropped from landscape to portrait..this time I got the whole stick in the frame. I tried to pull out as much detail in the shadows without introducing noise.
Sharp with a good EXP, the whole stick, and a nice COMP but the dark shadows caused in part by the relatively harsh light and by the less then ideal wing position have caused some serious problems.

Thank you Arthur...amazing...69 views and only one reply...oh well. Many will disagree with the "serious problems" but then most have different ways of looking at an image. I like the fact the wings are in mid-stroke because it they were up I would have clipped them and if they were down they would have blocked part of the stick and it's body (body isn't a big deal because of the shadows). I think this wing position shows the power these birds have and the akward loads they seem to be able to carry.
I'm also questioning what you're calling harsh light with this one (although you said relatively harsh light)...it was taken at 8:30am...close to an hour after sunrise. The light angle is bad though.
Thank you for your critique...it's much appreciated.
Duane, Let us know if you can figure out a way to get the members and participants to do more critiquing. I do not concern myself with what others might or might not think. I critique each image honestly as if it were my own. For the the dark underwings in shadow and the bright white head is a serious problem in an image. There is zero detail in the shaded portion of the near wing. As for the wing position we will need to agree to disagree.
YAW.

Duane, I think you did a good job bringing out some detail. I do feel that you captured a great moment with the eagle carrying the large stick. I do prefer the wings fully up-but that is a personal preference and probably because I'm not fond of shadow lines.
Thank you again Arthur for your honesty...I need to keep my emotions aside when I read critiques. I was so caught up in the moment and was thrilled that I actually got everything in the frame after watching this unfold with my own eyes I neglected to notice the basics...thankfully I'm still learning so having someone point out what I've missed is appreciated.
Denise...thank you. I have several captures from this morning but I think I'm going to move onto something new in future posts.
YAW. And yes, taking critiques personally is generally not a good plan :) I did so for years....
