D3 200f2 + TC17EII (340m) f/6.3 1/1250 ISO1600 -1EV matrix HH partially cloudy (hit or miss on EV comp, Missed on this one, under by about 1/2) Monochrome via LAB curves, RGB channel mixer, orange fill layer, detailing. Brought a little color back in beak. Happy to be close.

Haven't worked a monochrome in a while... what do you think?

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

    -Michael-

Michael, like the shot. The head appears to be a big soft compared to the body.
It is too centered in my opinion, whites are well exposed although a few spots are hot.

wow Michael, this is gorgeous! I love the wing position and feather detail and sharp toes - I wish the legs and toes stood out a little more against the background. Can you squeeze a little more detail out of the feathers?

    Troy, Pat,

Thanks much for the comments. I took another pass on this, contrast work on the whites (selective LAB curves), a little Topaz Detail 2, sharpening, nr - with attention to feet, head and high end whites, added some canvas on right. Oh, and toned down the bg.

I like the repost too. Love how you captured the details in white and the bird looks sharp with good wing spread. I'm tempted to crop a tiny bit off the bottom.

I agree that the repost is spot-on. The detail is excellent and it works great in monochrome.

    Bob, Thanaboon, Ian,

Thank you so much for your comments. Thanaboon, yep, a little off the bottom for the print...

    Cheers,

Beatiful monochrome look! I think the repost is a bit improvement and I don't mind the crop as the wingspan fills much of the negative space.
