Great action capture Ian. I like the position of the bird in the frame and the wing position. The bird is a little soft so I ran a Smart sharpen on the posted image- 100% at 0.5. I think this works. While I was there I also reduced noise in the BG.

BTW the light blue on the side of the bill indicates a Northern Pintail.

HI IAN....Nice work!.....Hard to capture these guys! OP does look soft but repost looks great! I also wish that the head didn't merge with the wing...but you CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT! :D

Thanks, folks, and I like the re-edit John. I seem to consistently undersharpen or oversharpen. Yes, I thought it was a pintail (I had shot a couple on the ground that day), but didn't want to commit and look silly :)

Like the pose. Repost definite improvement in detail, wish for slightly better eye contact

I also like the wing span but feel the overall angle is a bit awkward. The bright side of the beak also threw me a bit at first look. I do like the repost better but still struggle with that funky angle...
