    The Porphyrio porphyrio (pulverulentus, a sub-species endemic to the Philippines) has become quite shy in our islands, most probably because of hunting pressure.

    I got lucky the other day to get close to an individual at Candaba wetlands (Philippines) by using my vehicle as a blind. Here's sharing a processed 100% crop of the head area taken with my favorite short lens.

    1DM2 + 100-400 IS, 400 mm, f/5.6, ISO 320, 1/400 sec, manual exposure in available light, hand held, processed 100% crop:

    The colour looks different than the species we find in India. Nice close up.
