Default Old Civil War Photo - Confederate

Here's one of my "old" Civil War portraits taken at the recent reenactment I went to. This Confederate soldier was an ordinance sergeant.

I used my typical aging process, first converting the image to B&W and then adding various textures. I used three of my textures and three from Shadowhouse Creations, "Square 150," "Revenant," and "Rustic Plate." Finally I desaturated the image a bit.

Any comments and suggestions would be most appreciated!

Hi Christopher, as usual you have done a fine job of the aging of this photo. What I notice about this one is that the sharpness of the eyes and the shirt under his military jacket seem to "give away" the modern mode of capture. Don't know if this makes any sense, but to my eye those two elements are at odds with the rest of the image. I think it's not so much the sharpness itself, but the fact that the rest of the image has more of a classical softness to it. I like the vignette and the irregular look to the border, as these elements add to the aged look.

Christopher, What strikes me most about this image are the eyes. They are so alive and intense. He has a ruggedness to his features that fits the uniform in my opinion. Very nice aging and vignetting.

Christopher if I didn't know you'd taken the photo recently, I think its very believable. Agree with Kerry about the shirt but very lovely work..some day your going to have to share your workflow...I'd love to try this, I already have a few images in mind....Very nice...

Thanks very much, Kerry, Denise, and Paul. Much appreciated!

Kerry, I see your point on the sharpness. I'll try adding a tiny bit of motion blur to those areas.

Paul, I'll make sure to do an OOTB workflow on my technique when I get a chance. :)

Another of your excellent composition. Great aging effect applied here... btw, I had to chuckle reading Kerry's post on the shirt. Immediately I thought to time warp (being a trekkie; I had to see this through that lens!!). Given how authentic your images are... it makes sense to have something of twenty-first century artifact in the photo... a totem perhaps!
