Here's another look at a (c) Green- winged macaw at the St Augustine Alligator Farm. He's very animated and quite full of himself if you know what I mean. Had to wait until he moved into some better light and B.G.. Had to settle for a two toned BG. That took a little while.
Using a cropped sensor for the last two months as opposed to my previous images with a full sensor. Helps me eliminate as much of the BG as possible. It's a definite issue at A.F.
Enjoy...

Loverly bird, REDs, and BKGR. If it were mine I would have done a bit of bill clean-up and left some more room on top. I love the eye and the speckles around the eye.
Did you make a selection of the bird or the BKGR? (The top of the head looks a bit funky.)

Not sure I know what you mean about making a selection. I did select the eye and apply a small amount of sharpening. Did not like the light on the macaw's head. Ticked me off...

Hi Charley, The edges of the feathers at the top of the head look a bit strange; it you did not select them or the BKGR then that is how they would look in the RAW. Still too tight above :)

I chose to go with an extreme crop to avoid showing branches growing out of the macaw's head. Will try adding some canvas above the head. Thanks for your help it's greatly appreciated...

Great pose, colors, and BG. Nice use of flash. I think you could get a bit more detail out of the reds on the forehead by adding cyan to the red channel in color balance.
Good suggestion by the young man--I think that he learned that one from me :)
Charley, always better in my book leave the needed room and get rid of a few branches....
