Another peculiar position for our angry Hippo, I do not think this is as effective as the first one, but it for me at least is still unusual.

Taken on Lake Kariba, Matusadona National Park, Zimbabwe whilst staying at Rhino Island Safari Camp, 20th September 2010.

    Ken,

While a wonderful image, I prefer the first image shown as I think it has greater visual impact. I would not remove the specular chest highlight, the natural world is not one of sterility.
If you want to knock the highlight down a bit...use the Blur tool in darken mode.

I love this as an anatomy and behavior image. I never really thought of their lower jaw as such a big shovel-like thing. And are those teeth that appear to be on either side of the mid-line of the upper jaw? This image also shows the massiveness of hippos. So often they make good imitations as logs and one does not get any sense of features such as these.

Like the action and light! Also like the water coming off the mouth and the detail in the mouth.

Thanks for the positive comments, I must confess to really not being to bothered by the throat highlights, not to sure about the roation either as the bank looks relatively level to me.

Ken - I like this and it might be interesting for you to frame a series of this hippo side by side. I like the water spray and the highlights on the throat don't bother me, it's interesting to see the light pink coloration.
