    Looks like Yellow-legged Gull. I like the shadow in the sand.

    yes its a yellow legged; sorry title was a bit misleading I knew species; was tongue in cheek comment as I like the picture a lot

    Do you happen to know which subspecies? I think they get atlantis there, plus the bird looks too dainty and Lesser Black-backed like to me for michahellis, but I've personally seen zero of the former and only one of the latter.

    likely to be L C atlantis as location Algarve.
    I am no expert and find the whole classifications of gulls fascinating; there is loads to read up on for anyone who is interested.

    I didnt realise there are in fact more subspecies of atlantis eg Iberian, Azorean wow....btw looks like the Iberian

    I think it is your best gull! Nice shadow on the sandy bottom and a nice catch light in his eye. Strong HA and good clarity and detail throughout.

    HI Rich...a very nice gull...I especially like the feather detail.....You might think of darkening the edges ( vignettes) to draw the eye to focus even more on your gull.
