    Default October Project: Backlit Bald Eagle

    First post on BPN photo taken 3/10/2010 at 6:20 PM. Canon 50D/500mm ISO 400 aperture Priority F5 ss1600. New to digital photography and my photoshop skills are minimal any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

    Steve:

    A big welcome to BPN! Your image wasn't displaying, so thats why you weren't getting comments. I fixed the link, and it should come up fine for everyone now.

    The backlight really makes the tail feathers glow, with nice overall pose.
    What holds you back is the very busy background. The combination of bright sky and many branches really pulls our eye away from the subject.

    With some work the bird could be improved during post, the background, not so much.

    Look forward to more. Keep working at it!

    You can get a lot of practice shooting gulls or other common birds so spend some time hanging around the park or lake.

    If you are new to digital photography I would say you are off to a pretty good start! Lovely detail in the bird, as Randy indicates there is potential for even more but the bird is pretty darned good! The tree in the background is a little too evident, i.e. it is not sufficiently out of focus to be of less distraction and this does not help the image but I'm sure we will be looking out for your future posts!
