Default Cooper's Hawk with Tree Sparrow

    1DM2n, 600mm... ISO 320, F 5.0, 1/500... 85% of Frame

Another image of my backyard Cooper's Hawk... This guy/gal started using the stand for our birdbath as a perch, so I replaced it with what you see here (perch and evergreen branch). Waited for a snowy day, and spent 7 hours in the blind! The Coop showed up after about 5 hours... then I waited for another 2 in hopes of a return visit, but it didnt happen.

With the blind, I'm starting to do more controlled setups than ever before, although I'm still just in the early stages. I would be interested in what people think, or any ideas that might have made it better!

    All the best,

    Brandon

Fantaastic photograph. Love the position of the sparrow. EXP and SHARP perfect. I would definitely spend some time looking for a perch with more charachter, one much less bright... Something weathered and greyer... The hook on the lower right side of the perch is distracting at best. later and love, artie

Great image and well deserved after sitting in the blind for hours. I find the perch a bit bright, maybe you could tone down the midtones and agree that it would be nice if the hawk were a bit further to the left in the frame. Maybe like this. It could get better if you fix the histogram in the original. The blacks are blocked and there is a big spike at the left end.

Good job with the perch Axel but the whole thing has gone darker so that the subject does not pop from the BKGR as it did in the orig, and the j-hook is still a problem for me. There are lots of better perches out there esp. for such a wonderful backyard. later and love, artie

I know, I just used the midtone slider but the blacks are blocked. S/H works a bit better but makes the BG look more busy.
