    Default Golden Eagle and Goats

I ran across this and it is something I never would have thought possible. In a foreign language so not sure what is being said but it is pretty much self explanatory. Not for the queasy.

I have listened to two different presenters at our bird club, one a rehaber and the other a falconer, talk about the abilities of Golden Eagles. The behavior in that amazing video is actually well documented, including driving Pronghorn Antelope off of cliffs in the U.S. and killing young White-tailed Deer (see the photo series linked to in the text before the video).

The falconer actually raised Golden Eagles. He told us a story relayed to him by one of his buddies who also raised Goldens. It seems that the neighbor's German Shepherd wandered into his yard when his 14 pound female Golden was outside on a perch. The roughly 80 pound dog walked under the eagle, and she simple dropped onto its back and killed it. No fight, no struggle. The dog never saw her coming. He said that one foot snapped the back and the rear toe of the other foot went right into the brain. And she was tethered to the perch, so there was no flight speed involved n the attack.

Truly a bird that is not to be messed with.

They have Eagle meets in various part of Europe where they routinely take deer with their goldens. They are powerful birds, a big female could put her hind talon under your chin and wrap the others around and on top of your head with no difficulty. Red tails with their puny feet are capable of and have killed foxes and dogs up to the size of beagles.

Thank you both for the info......Where I am at there is a small lake a couple of miles from my house. We have had a pair of Golden's and a Bald for the last 3 years and I have not been able to get any pictures of them yet let alone watch their behavior. Maybe someday.
