    Hi,

I have photos from this bird with "proper" head angle but for some reason I like this "stare" the most.

    EOS MK3 + 500/4 + 2.0 TC
    F/13
    CW-Average 1/400; +1 1/3
    ISO 500
    Camera on tripod.

Unfortunately I was not able to get to the same level where the bird was. :(

    Cheers,

    Mikko

Mikko, there's not a thing wrong with this head angle! The only thing that matters when they are staring you down is that their head is high enough that you can make eye contact and you certainly have here! Lovely exposure (although you have some harsh lighting by the look of the feet). You might try opening up the shadows on the right eye a bit more - maybe a shadow/highlight adjustment or masking everything but that area for a screen blend mode change.

Lovely DOF - nice details...nicely sharp all over.

Like the stare. Details look good. agree w Julie about lightening up the right side. Wonder about adding a little contrast to the breast. Lucky to get so close

I like the head angle too. Lighting from behind would have been better than this side lighting. Some fill flash may have helped in this situation.

I did as told. Added contrast and dodged the right side a bit. I think the contrast change made this definitely better.

    Thanks,
