    Default The Cavalry!

Here's another image from the Civil War reenactment, a battle shot for a change. It was difficult to get good photos of the battle because the sun was in front of the line of spectators and much of the action was kind of distant, but I did get a few good ones like this one of the cavalry fighting.

I converted the image to B&W, cropped it to pano, and then added two of my textures and "Trashed" texture from Shadowhouse Creations.

Any comments and suggestions would be most appreciated!

Hi Christopher, I like the action and effect very much. The camp in the backround, pano crop, creases and smoke add to the overall. I might take out the cut horse on the right....

Nice composition, Christopher. Love the effect here. Very nicely done.

Christopher, another winner but...maybe level out the horizon a bit? It seems the FG goes downhill and that didn't bother me that much until I noticed the clump of trees in the BG/center area and they are tilted as well. Any way to get it more even without starting all over?

Processing is fantastic and looks very authentic. I really like the vignette on this one as well.

Thanks very much, Dave, Indranil, and Jules. I appreciate the comments!

Jules, I had a look and you're totally right on the horizon. I always save the psd file with all the layers, so it was a pretty easy fix.

Dave, I had considered removing the cut off horse, but when I tried it, I didn't like how it left that area empty so I decided to leave it.

Wonderful, Christopher! Now I don't feel like the horse is sliding downhill!

The conversion is excellent and very old timey. Straightening the horizen made a definite improvement. The composition is very effective. The partial horse on the right is a bit distracting, but I know what you mean removing it might unbalance the composition. I would like to see one without it.

Thanks for commenting, Bill. As you requested, here it is without the partial horse on the right for comparison.
